How to Make Your Own Wedding Invitations
I'm going to show you how to make the perfect do it yourself wedding invitations. First, you need to gather a few materials. You need white 12x12 inch cardstock, white 12x12 inch vellum paper, half inch ribbon in one of your wedding colors, a hole punch, and a 12 inch paper trimmer. These materials will probably cost you around $30 and will make about 100 invitations. Now that you have your materials, the first thing you need to do is cut the 12x12 inch cardstock and vellum into 4 inch by 8 inch rectangles. Set them aside and pull out your ribbon. Cut a 5 and a half inch piece of ribbon and put that with the cardstock and the vellum. Now, you need to open up a word processing program on your computer, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works. If you don't have a program like this on your computer, you can download one at OpenOffice.ORG. When you have your word processing program open, you need to change the page setup. If you need help with this, click on Help in the program you're using. You should change the page size to 4 inches wide and 8 inches tall. That should be one of the options available on your program. If not, you can type the dimensions into the “custom size” boxes. When you are done with this, the page should look similar in size to the cardstock and vellum you cut earlier. If not, you may have done something wrong. Now that the page is the correct size, you should type in the wording that you want the invitation to have. You can find wedding invitation wording at verseit.com (that's V-E-R-S-E-I-T.com). Once you have the wording typed in, play around a bit with the font, size, and color until it looks good to you. When you are done, you're ready to print. Click on File and then Print. Once the print boxes opens, click on Properties. When the properties box opens, change the page size to 4 inches by 8 inches like you did earlier. This will ensure that the printer prints the page correctly. Also, change the paper type to “transparency”. This will make the printer print more slowly and with less ink so the vellum won't smudge. Load the vellum into the printer and hit print. When the page prints, lay it aside for 10 to 20 minutes and don't touch it, otherwise you'll have ink all over your hands and you'll have to reprint it. While the vellum is drying, open up a new page in your word processing program that is 4 inches by 8 inches. This time, instead of typing words, we're going to put in a nice picture or background. Look through your program's clipart to find a picture or background that you like. If you don't find one you like, you can always look online, but be sure to get royalty free images only. When you find a picture you like, insert it into the page. Change the size until you like the way it looks and it fits on the page. Print the page like you did with the vellum. Since it is printed on cardstock, it only needs a minute or two to dry. Lay it aside and allow it to dry with the vellum. When they are both dry, lay the vellum on top of the cardstock and line them up well. In the center of the top of the cardstock and vellum, make 2 holes a quarter inch apart with a hole punch. They don't have to be perfectly in the middle, but try to get them close. Now, take your ribbon and loop it through the card so that the tails are sticking through the back and there is a small band showing in the front. Now, take the tails that are now at the back of the card and push them through the holes on the opposite side that you did the first time and pull them through. This should make the ribbon look like a bow. You now have a beautiful wedding invitation that is cost effective, lightweight, and it fits in a business size envelope. Enjoy! |
