How To Play Super Smash Bros Melee

One of the most popular games on the Nintendo Gamecube console is Super Smash Bros. Meleeā„¢ or Smash Bros. as many call it. Smash Bros is a fighting game with a Nintendo spin. The Nintendo portion of this game is that all the characters are Nintendo-based and it is appropriate for most people to play because there is no explicit gore as with most fighting games. Animation is a big part of this game because the characters look nothing real people so the game is not as explicitly violent. There are four main aspects of the game that players need to know to begin playing this game: the controller, controls, characters, and arenas.

The first thing that a player needs to learn about is the controller. The layout of the Gamecube controller is simple. It is split into two sections: the left and the right. On the left side, where your thumb naturally lies is the joystick. Directly below that is the directional pad, or D-pad. On the right side, where your thumb naturally lies is the green A button. Directly below the A button is the red B button. Below the B button is the Yellow c joystick. Above the A button are the X and Y buttons. Where your thumbs naturally lie are the L and R buttons. On the right side, above the R button is the purple Z button.

After getting familiar with the controller, the next thing a new player must learn is the basic controls for this game. Before you learn the controls for the game, you should learn the terms for Smash Bros. These terms, which refer to the joystick, are pushing and smashing. Pushing the joystick means that you push the joystick as far as you can in one direction. Smashing the joystick means that you push the joystick as far as you can in one direction and as fast as you can. Each character has five kinds of attacks: A attacks, smash attacks, B attacks, aerial attacks, and throws. A attacks are the basic attacks of each character. As the name implies, A attacks use the A button. The basic A attack involves simply hitting the A button, and is the fastest attack that your character can do. You can also use other A attacks by pushing the joystick and hitting the A button. These directional attacks only attack in the direction that you push the joystick. The smash attacks are the strongest attacks in the game. To do a smash attack you smash the joystick in the direction you want to attack and quickly hit the A button. These attacks can be charged by holding the A button longer. These attacks also can be quickly accessed by moving the C stick in the direction you want to attack. The B attacks are your special attacks and are the attacks that really make each individual character stand out. There are four B attacks. The basic B attack is occurs when you hit the B button; there is no standard type of B attack. The directional B attacks are what makes or breaks a powerful character. The first directional B attack is the left/right B attack; this move is a special attack in the left or right direction. You do this by pressing the B button and quickly pushing the joystick either left or right. This move will do some kind of attack directly in front of your character. The up B attack usually does an upward jumping move. Down B attacks usually do a special move downward. Aerial attacks are just A attacks, except they are in the air. To do them, you have to just push the joystick in the direction you wish to attack, and press the A button. Throws are difficult moves that send your enemies flying. You do these by pressing the Z button when close to your opponent to grab them, then simply push the joystick in the direction you wish to throw them. These are all of the attacks you can do with your character.

The next thing that you must learn about the game is the characters. When you start the game there are 14 playable characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Throughout the game there are 11 extra characters that can be found. Each character is strong in certain areas, but weak in others. For example, Bowser has strong attacks, and is hard to send flying because he is so heavy, but cannot jump very high and is very slow. Other characters, like Kirby are really good at jumping and flying long distances. Some characters are really good at ranged attacks, like Samus, while others don't have any ranged attacks, like Captain Falcon. I personally prefer Link because he uses a good mix between ranged attacks and physical attacks. The best way to find a good character is to simply play the game and find one you like and can control.

The last main thing that you should know about the game is the arenas. When you start the game, there are 18 arenas to fight on, but as you go through the game, you can open 9 new arenas. Arenas are of huge importance in this game. Arenas come in many shapes and sizes. Some arenas move like Big Blue, where you fight on racing hover cars and if you fall onto the road, you will quickly go off the side of the map and be defeated. Some have environmental hazards like Onett, where you can get run over by a car if you aren't careful. Some are large like Hyrule Temple, where you have lots of space to fight on, and some are small like Battlefield. Each arena is totally different from one another.

In conclusion, you should follow these basic instructions to learn how to play the game. You should get used to the Gamecube controller. You should then get used to the buttons and button combinations that make you attack. You should then get used to the character that you wish to play as. Finally you should get used to all the arenas, so you know what will happen when you are fighting in them. The best thing to remember is that it is best to learn how to play the game is to simply play it.
